A question for the doctor, again

Hey Todd, I have a question for you. I have been considering doing a colon cleanse. My guess is that Nutraseuticals had some type. I have read a lot that has said for optimum health you should have a clean colon. Anyway, I was wondering your opinion on this matter. Do you think they have benefits? Is it doing what they say it will do? I am not having any specific problems, just wondering if it would be good to improve health. Sorry people, if this is a topic you don't feel comfortable with out in the open like this. I just really want to know what a smart MD has to say, and though maybe, just maybe, someone else may have wondered, but been afraid to ask. If it is a good thing to do, can you recommend a good one?

Also, I have seen some that include a parasite pill that rids you of parasites? What do you think of that? Inquiring minds want to know.

Even more dentistry

Just in case you were thinking that I was a little over anxious about the tooth thing, I thought I would let you all know that my tooth came out again this morning. And what was I doing, you may ask? Was I eating an apple, or a carrot, or maybe sharpening my teeth on concrete? Nope. I was drinking water. That’s right. A big swig of water knocked that baby right out. I’m amazed it lasted as long as it did!

Luckily my dentist friend stuck it back on again. It feels a little sturdier this time, so hopefully I can make it one more week to the implant/crown day.

Todd's Weight Loss Plan

Well, I am proud to report to you today that I have lost a total of 7 pounds in the past four weeks!  I have not been overly aggressive in trying to lose weight; my focus has mainly been on eating "right" and exercising as much as possible.  This has been a chronic process, so why the sudden weight loss?

Well, I have come up with two reasons.  First is my work environment.  The bad is that I work 80 hours a week, sleep less than I should and have nary a minute to pee much less eat.  (One day, when you feel like you have to pee before bed, get out of bed and don't stay awake not allowing yourself to pee until about 4AM.  Yep, this is my life.)  The good is that I walk like crazy around the hospital all day long and Gundersen provides me with lots of healthy food to eat (and some unhealthy food too.)  I always have a salad and some fruit at lunch and I have made a concious effort to eat small portions of the main dish.  When I'm on call it's even better as I can eat anything I want from the dining room.  Yesterday for dinner I had a roasted chicken breast, a salad, a bowl of strawberries and a bowl of grapes.

The second reason I can think of is my two weeks of anxiety every time I put anything in my mouth!  This tooth feels like it's dangling by a thread and I really don't want it to come out at the wrong time.  So now I have to really want to eat to push me above the anxiety threshhold.

I think I will write a book about my methods and retire.  The Dr. Ebbert Really Really New Diet Revolution in partnership with some of my dentist friends...

My health goals at this point are really more about shape than weight, so I will keep doing what I'm doing right now with the addition of a little bit of weight lifting and we'll see how things go!

Back again

Hey there everyone. I have really missed everyone's posts. Maybe now things are a little back to normal, I will be posting more often. Fortunately I didn't gain on vacation, but it sure was harder to eat well when I wasn't at home. It isn't as fun going out to eat when all you can order is a salad. It gets old. I am doing well since we got home and I have a new goal. From the time we got home from vacation until the end of October, I want to lose 20 more lbs. I have already lost 4 or 5 so I think that will make it a reachable goal. I continue to use the Change One diet and I am exercising 4 or 5 times a week. Still no strength training though. It is not something I enjoy and it seems so slow, it is hard for me to want to do it, let alone, actually doing it. What works for you guys?

Some of the funnest things that have happened are that I got to pull out a box of clothes that I haven't been able to wear since before I was pregnant with Lizzy, and now they fit! It was so awesome to be able to do that. Also, FINALLY, when I got back from vacation, people started to notice that I was losing weight. I have been waiting and waiting. I can't believe that it has taken 20-25 lbs. before people started to notice. I feel proud of myself, but I still have to remember there is more ahead and that these are changes I will have to keep most my life if I am to stay thinner and healthier. Another one that is good psychologically is that I finally moved from the obese category to the overweight category on the BMI charts I have. I don't know why, but that is so gratifying to me.

Anyway, things are going well. I do find myself bored with the treadmill sometimes, so i need to see if I can't find some way to fix that. I also still have cravings for things that aren't good for me. I hope those will go away someday! I would love to hear how you guys are doing.

Keep on trying

I guess I don't post for two reasons....I am not trying as hard as I could be and I have been pretty busy the last several weeks. Now I am going to try to get into better habits again (always again). I have lost 10 pounds since I started this effort. It is slow going but I am at least moving in the right direction. I started school this week so I am making some school time goals. I will try to take water with me to school every day to keep up on my water intake and I will pack my lunch at least once a week. School lunch is very easy but not very good for you. I think I can, I think I can, I think I can.
